Mystery Photo #1

I used to root around the Florida Photographic Collection when it was a bunch of prints in metal file cabinets. It's a less romantic search now that the collection is on the internet, but you don't have to worry about finding parking around the R. A. Gray building any more.

Some day Real Soon I am going to hunt down all the running photos in the Florida Photographic Collection and produce a document with links, thumbnails, and descriptions. Some of the photos may be difficult to describe, though. For instance:


The Collection titles this "Marathon Runners at Tom Brown Park : Tallahassee, Florida." The date is given as 4 July 1984. I'll accept "runners," the Dolfin shorts seem to confirm 1984, and it looks like Tom Brown Park, but I'm rejecting "Marathon." The Tallahassee Marathon has led a gypsy existence, wandering from course to course over its lifetime, but has never been run in Tom Brown Park--especially in July. While knowing that the race pictured isn't the Tallahassee Marathon, I can't say what it is. Tallahassee had several Fourth of July races in the past before surrendering the date to the big events in Atlanta, Georgia and Greensboro, Florida. I also have to confess that I don't recognize any of the people in the photograph.
