Fallen Officer Memorial 5K starts with wins by LaBossiere and Pence

Tallahassee master runner Dr. Michael LaBossiere, FAMU's fastest philosopher, ran a 19:02 5K to win the inaugural Fallen Officer Memorial Road Race on Saturday morning, 13 April 2013. LaBossiere finished just ahead of runner-up Nick Vanni, who covered the 3.1 miles in 19:12. Heather Pence won the women's crown in the race, finishing fourth overall in 24:23. Allison Carter was the next female finisher, sixth overall in 24:40.


38 runners finished the course on the Appleyard Drive campus of Tallahassee Community College. The Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy organized the event, and proceeds from the race were intended to fund the All Florida Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Scholarship as a memorial to fallen law-enforcement officers.
