[ Presenting address given at the Gulf Winds Track Club annual awards meeting on Saturday evening, 18 January 2014. ]How many people ran 27 races last year?
Our Male Runner of the Year won 27 races last year. He set records at seven of those races, competing on the track, cross country, and on the roads, in distances from the mile to the marathon. He never forgot Gulf Winds, though, competing in 14 club races and all 15 Grand Prix races. Of the ten fastest road 5Ks run in Tallahassee last year, he had five of them; his fastest was a 15:46. He also had three of the top five road 10K times in town for the year; his best there was a 32:32.
He's in his second year of studying mathematics at Florida State University, where he's a Navy ROTC midshipman. If you haven't already recognized him by his record, then you'll recognize him by his silly hat. The Gulf Winds Track Club Runner of the Year is Stanley Linton.
