Whitehead and Pate are out front at Back The Blue

In Albany, Georgia on Saturday morning, 30 July 2016, more than 100 athletes showed their solidarity with law enforcement workers by racing through the city streets in the Back The Blue 5K. Darton State College professor Patrick Whitehead was the fastest of the supporters, running 16:57 and winning the race by more than 300 meters. Meghan Pate was the winner on the women's side, finishing sixth overall in 22:36.


Fourteen-year-old Henry Plowden was runner-up in 18:05. A cross-country runner, Plowden is an incoming frosh at Westover High. Albany distance runner Arnoldo DeJesus took third in 19:52. Jay Elliott was the fastest master runner in the race and eighth overall in 22:56.


Karen McNally was the top woman master and second female finisher, eleventh overall in 24:06. Ansley Cain, a rising senior on the Lee County High cross-country team, was third in the women's standings and thirteenth overall in 24:49. Another Lee County harrier, junior Ramsay Miller (14th, 24:58) was the fourth woman while Lee County seventh-grader Emily Phillips (15th, 25:14) was the fifth.


102 athletes finished Albany's 2016 Back The Blue 5K.
