In 2016 at Valdosta, Georgia's inaugural Kicking & Screaming 5K, Andrew Elam and Tyler Temples battled for second place, with Elam edging Temples 19:05 to 19:07 at the finish line. Both athletes were back at Lowndes High School on Saturday morning, 28 January 2017, for the second annual Kicking & Screaming 5K. This time, Temples got the better of Elam, winning the race in 18:35. Brenna Clark, an eighth-grader on the Valwood School cross-country team, hadn't been at the Kicking & Screaming 5K in 2016. Neverthless, in the 2017 race she outran several veterans of the 2016 event, winning the women's title in 23:54 and placing sixth overall.Elam finished runner-up for the second year in a row, going 18:56. Brian Rohrbach of Valdosta was the fastest master runner in the race and third overall in 19:04.
Hahira's Mary Cochling placed second in the women's standings and eighth overall in 25:03. Melissa Roe of Valdosta, the third woman in 2016, was the third woman again in 2017, coming in tenth overall in 25:12. Amy Reese of Valdosta was the first woman master and sixth female finisher, eighteenth overall in 27:13.
61 athletes finished the 2017 Kicking and Screaming 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta provided timing and finish line services for the race.
