Godwin and Van Jura go the distance in the Hospice Half

For the sixth time since 2011, Dasher was the place to be in South Georgia for distance runners looking to race 13.1 miles on country roads. It was Saturday morning, 25 February 2017; it was the Hospice Half Marathon; it was Ariel Godwin of Valdosta, Georgia winning the race in 1:35:07. Hahira, Georgia's Brandy Van Jura took the women's title, placing seventh overall in 1:50:45. 56 athletes finished the half marathon.


A little over half a minute behind the winner, James Tracy of Valdosta finished runner-up in 1:35:42. The fastest master runner in the half marathon was Chad Bergren of Lakeview, Oregon, placing third overall in 1:4:24. Valdosta's Dan Butzin was fourth overall in 1:48:51.


Kendall Okuma was second in the women's standings and eighth overall in 1:55:01. Moultrie, Georgia's Whitney Pilgrim was the third woman and eleventh overall in 2:01:57. Valdosta athlete Rhonda Barrett was the first woman master and fourth female finisher, placing twelfth overall in 2:04:04.


A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the 2017 Hospice Half Marathon and provided finish line services.
