Starting in 2012, the Bay County Championship High School Cross-Country Meet moved to newly-opened Conservation Park in Panama City Beach, Florida. Andy Holtery runs cross-country for an Okaloosa County School, Niceville, so he never had an opportunity to race in the park during the Bay County Meet. But on Saturday morning, 3 June 2017, the sixth annual Anchors Away 6K was held in Conservation Park, a race not restricted to Bay County harriers. Holtery had his chance. The Niceville rising senior made the most of it, winning the six-kilometer run on park trails in 23:51. Master runner Rebecca McConnell was the women's champ, placing twelfth overall in 30:05.Hector Espino was the fastest master runner in the Anchors Away 6K, placing second overall in 24:16. Master runner Dan Station edged Joel Jason for third overall, 25:11 to 25:16.
Master runner Autumn Peters was second in the women's standings and fifteenth overall in 31:40. Amy Kantner and master runner Debbie Chitwood had a close race for the third spot in the women's rankings, but Kantner prevailed, 31:57 to 32:00. Kantner and Chitwood finished sixteenth and seventeenth overall.
91 athletes finished the 2017 Anchors Away 6K. Proceeds of the race benefit Anchorage Children's Home. Gulf Coast Race Timing of Panama City, Florida timed the race.
