A whole lot of Lincoln Trojan at the Bainbridge Bearcat Invitational

Bainbridge High BearcatsAt the 18th annual Bearcat Invitational Cross-Country Meet, it was the second year in a row that a school from Tallahassee, Florida went home with the high school team titles. On Saturday morning, 16 September 2017, it was Lincoln High carrying home the loot to Tallahassee, as both the Trojan boys and the Trojan girls were the first team in their respective races. Lincoln senior Clayton Carlson was the fastest individual in the high school boys' 5K, but Tift County sophomore Emily Golden kept it from being a total Trojan sweep by winning the high school girls' 5K.

The high school girls' 5K was in fact the first race of the meet, starting at 8:00 AM. Improving on her 2016 Bearcat Invitational performance by eight seconds, Emily Golden toured the course around the Bainbridge High campus in 20:41, finishing nearly 70 meters ahead of the next runner. Gianna Forte, a Bishop Snyder junior, was runner-up in 20:58, and Lincoln sophomore Chase Merrick took third in 21:06.

Merrick was joined by Lincoln teammates Lexi Gray (8th, 22:19), Rylee French (11th, 22:49), Asta Hemenway (16th, 23:14), and Arianna Neely (25th, 23:44) in amassing 53 points for the Trojans, giving Lincoln the top spot in a field of fifteen teams. Lindsay James finished fifth in 21:51 for Chiles, leading her team to second place with a score of 88. Tift County was third with 144 points, just ahead of the 147 scored by fourth-place Bainbridge.
