Gary Droze and Maya Tang by much more than a nose at the Red Nose Run

Tallahassee, Florida runners swept the top places at the Thomasville, Georgia Junior Service League's eight annual Red Nose Run 5K on Saturday morning, 5 January 2019. Tallahassee Community College cross-country coach and master runner Gary Droze was the overall winner, crossing the finish line with a 130-meter lead in 18:27. Maya Tang, a cross-country runner at Deerlake Middle School in Tallahassee, led the women's field, placing fifth overall in 20:48.


The Red Nose Run had originally been scheduled for 1 December 2018. But after a forecast of severe weather, the Thomasville Junior Service League decided to postpone the event to Saturday morning, 5 January 2019. This time the weather cooperated. It was cool and cloudy with a slight breeze when the runners gathered at Thomas University for the race.


Another Tallahassee master runner, Michael Martinez, finished runner-up to Droze, running 18:57. Matthew Williams of Orlando, Florida took third in 19:32. Bainbridge High frosh cross-country runner Landon Watts placed fourth in 20:45.


Anna James, a sophomore on the Thomas County Central High cross-country team, was second in the women's standings and eighth overall in 22:14. Nancy Herring of Thomasville was the first woman master and third female finisher, twelth overall in 24:24.


95 athletes finished the eighth annual Red Nose Run 5K. Event Technical Services, Inc., of Sylvester, Georgia timed the race.

The 5K was the sole race contested in 2011, 2015, 2016, and 2019.
In 2012 the half marathon course was cut short.
In 2012 - 2016 the 5K was run on USATF certified course GA12116WC.
In 2013 and 2014 the half marathon was run on USATF certified course GA12117WC.
In 2017 both the half marathon and 5K were long by varying amounts.
