FLRunners.com named it's All-Florida high school cross-country teams Wednesday, and, not surprisingly, the Tallahassee area was well represented.
On the boys' squad, Leon High School's Matt Mizereck made first team and was named Runner of the Year. Maclay School's Patrick Swain made second team All-Florida. At the state championships in November, Mizereck won his third straight FHSAA-3A title, and Swain won the FHSAA-1A title for the second year in a row.
For the girls, Jana Stolting of Maclay was named to the All-Florida first team. Maclay freshman Stefanie Kurgatt, Chiles High School sophomore Carly Thomas, and Chiles sophomore Lily Williams earned second team All-Florida honors. Thomas was the 2009 FHSAA-3A champion, finishing half a second ahead of her teammate Williams.
The rosters of the FLRunners.com 2009 All-Florida high school cross-country teams are posted at:
Tuesday the Florida Dairy Farmers named Thomas and Williams's coach, Scott Gowan, as the 2009 girls' high school cross-country coach of the year. Gowan led the Chiles girls to their second straight FHSAA-3A team championship this year.
So when you're running the Lake Overstreet Trail, and some young kids flash by you so fast you feel like you're standing still, don't feel bad. You're being dusted by some of the best prep runners in the state of Florida.
