Madison, Florida's annual 5K road race has been around for more than 30 years. Over the decades it has been called the Colin P. Kelly 5K, the Colin Kelly Fitness Run, and the Down Home Days Fitness Run. On Saturday morning, 21 April 2018, the race was back with another new name, the Sentinel Sprint 5K, and a new course on the North Florida Community College Campus. The 5K also crowned a new champion, Ryan Kelly of Lake Park, Georgia. Kelly, the Valdosta High cross-country coach, won the Sentinel Sprint by close to 700 meters, running 18:15. Master runner Chandra Smith was the first woman in the race, placing thirteenth overall in 28:20.William Carter of Perry, Florida was the first master runner in the 5K, placing second overall in 21:13. Carter was the overall winner of the race in 21:13. Dylan Gulmette, who had been fifth in the 2016 race and third in 2017, took third in 2018 with a 22:04.
Master runner Mary Carter was second in the women's standings and fourteenth overall in 28:39. Another veteran of the race, Carter had been third in the women's standings in both 2016 and 2017. In a tight race for the third women's spot, Keisha Martinez (30:13) edged Tina Tucker (30:16) and Brandi Browning. Martinez, Tucker, and Browning were eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth overall.
52 athletes finished the 2018 Sentinel Sprint 5K.
