After a 2016 race at Innovation Park, the 2LT Justin Sisson Memorial 5K returned to Florida State University's main campus in Tallahassee on Saturday morning, 4 February 2017. The winner of the race in Innovation Park, Alexander McDonald, was among the runners gathered at Landis Green for the 2017 event, back to defend his title. But Mark Zamani, a first-year FSU undergraduate from Naugatuck, Connecticut, had different notions. Finishing almost 300 meters ahead of McDonald, Zamani won the fourth annual Sisson Memorial 5K in 17:01. McDonald was runner-up with a 17:31.Zamani's 17:01 was just two seconds off of the Sisson Memorial 5K record of 16:59 set by Michael Magoulas in the 2015 race. Sheryl Rosen did more than just frighten the women's record, though. Crossing the finish line close to 900 meters ahead of the next woman and placing fourth overall, Rosen took the women's title in 18:26. That mark obliterated the women's record of 19:51, set by Kate Harrison at the first Sisson Memorial 5K in 2014. Olivia Rossel inched by Jordan Clark for second in the women's standings, 22:26 to 22:27. Rossel and Clark placed seventeenth and nineteenth overall.
261 athletes finished the 2017 2LT Justin Sisson Memorial 5K. Miles and Minutes, LLC, of Tallahassee chip-timed the race.
