The annual 2LT Justin Sisson Memorial 5K found a new home for the third year of the race, moving to Innovation Park on the south side of Tallahassee, Florida. If the athletes were unhappy with the change of venue, though, it wasn't evident in the numbers--322 showed up to finish the race on Saturday morning, 20 February 2016. Alex McDonald was the fastest in that field, turning a 17:37 on the 3.1-mile course to win by over a hundred meters. Dalton Fuss edged Andre Young 18:12 to 18:16 for the runner-up spot, with Paul Thiels right behind them at 18:18.Lindsey Ginther and Erin Brennan were in a close match for the top women's spot, with Ginther prevailing 21:53 to 21:54. The two athletes finished fourteenth and fifteenth overall. Katie Durham was third in the women's standings, placing 18th overall in 22:02.
The annual race is conducted by Florida State University's Army ROTC unit as a memorial to 2012 FSU graduate Justin Sisson, a US Army infantry officer who was killed in action in Afghanistan on 3 June 2013. Proceeds of the Justin Sisson 5K go to benefit a scholarship in his name.
Miles and Minutes, LLC, of Tallahassee provided timing for the race.
