Henry Plowden came to the third annual Love Run 5K with the mission to defend his 2015 title in the Albany, Georgia race.Mission accomplished.
On Saturday morning, 6 February 2016, the Westover Middle School eighth-grader ran 19:21 to finish in front of a field of 96 athletes. Arnoldo DeJesus finished second behind Plowden, running the 3.1-mile race in 19:40. Carl Plowden was the top master runner in the Love Run 5K, placing third overall in 20:53. Lee County Middle School cross country runner Ben Phillips, an eighth grader, was fourth in 21:08.
Karen McNally, an Albany master runner, took the women's title in the Love Run, finishing seventh overall in 23:25. Angela Gattie was runner-up on the women's side, twelfth overall in 24:10. Anna Champion (13th, 24:21) edged Ansley Cain (14th, 24:27) for third in the women's standings. Cain is a junior on the Lee County High cross country team. Emily Phillips, the 2015 women's champ, was the fifth female finisher this year, coming in sixteenth overall in 24:49.
