Roe and Bills do the kicking at the Kicking & Screaming 5K

The inaugural Kicking and Screaming 5K was run at Valdosta, Georgia's Lowndes High School, and Lowndes High cross country runners swept the overall male and female titles. Viking senior Chance Roe won the 30 January 2016 race, covering the 3.1-mile course in 17:35. Sophomore Phoebe Bills was first in the women's standings, coming in eleventh overall in 22:37.


Roe wasn't exactly challenged in the race. He finished with a lead of nearly 400 meters over the next runner. That runner happened to be Lowndes High senior Andrew Elam, who narrowly edged Tyler Temples 19:05 to 19:07 for second place. Both Elam and Temples are on the roster of the Lowndes High soccer team. Jeremy Storey of Valdosta was the fastest master runner in the race, placing sixth overall in 20:38.


Zoey Storey of Valdosta was the women's runner up, placing twelfth overall in 23:04. Valdosta's Melissa Roe was the third woman across the line, fourteenth overall in 23:19. Polyanna Bass of Pavo, Georgia was the top woman master and sixth female finisher, eighteenth overall in 24:22.


72 athletes finished the 2016 Kicking and Screaming 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta provided timing and finish line services.
