Kozma and Golden play hard to get at Tifton Sweetheart Run

Racing in his hometown, Tifton, Georgia master runner Marton Kozma won the nineteenth annual Sweetheart Run 5K on Saturday morning, 20 February 2016. Kozma ran the 3.1 miles in 20:39. Emily Golden was second over the finish line and first on the women's side, running 20:23. A Tift Middle School cross country runner, Golden had finished second in the women's division of the 2015 Sweetheart 5K.


Cooper Browning of Tifton was second in the men's standings, placing third overall in 21:24. Tifton's Joseph Knoll edged Mike Belcher of Ashburnham, Massachusetts for the third men's spot, both runners clocked in 21:31.


Ashlee Golden, a sophomore cross country runner at Tift County High, was the runner-up in the women's standings, placing tenth overall in 23:34. Tifton's Penny Peters was the top woman master and third female finisher, eleventh overall in 24:38.


77 athletes finished Tifton's nineteenth annual Sweetheart Run 5K with another 52 completing a one-mile fun "Clot Trot". Proceeds from the runs benefit Hemophilia of Georgia.
