Henry Plowden and Ann Centner both ring the bell a second time in the Jingle Bell Jog 10K

Saturday, 8 December 2018, was a morning for defending champions in Albany, Georgia's 30th annual Jingle Bell Jog 10K. Henry Plowden won the 6.2-mile race for the second year in a row, running 37:44--over a minute faster than his winning time in 2017. Ann Centner of Blakely, Georgia successfully defended her title as the top woman in the 10K, placing second overall in 39:13.


Plowden was coming off a successful high school cross-country season; just five weeks earlier the Westover High junior had taken ninth in the GHSA-4A boys' race at the State Championships. The top master runner in the Jingle Bell Jog 10K was Carl Plowden, second in the men's standings and third overall in 45:12. Jaren Hill of Americus, Georgia was the third male finisher and fourth overall in 45:38.


Cordele, Georgia's Stacey McGarr was the first woman master in the 10K and second female finisher, eighth overall in 47:05. Danice Roberts of Leesburg, Georgia took third on the women's side, placing thirteenth overall in 49:16.

Back before Henry Plowden won his first Jingle Bell Jog 10K, he was the 2016 Jingle Bell Jog 5K champ. In the 2018 edition of the shorter race, Edward Ostrander of Leesburg, Georgia took first. A frosh runner on the Lee County High cross-country team, Ostrander ran the 3.1-mile race in 20:27. Amanda An of Ellicott City, Maryland was the women's champ, placing second overall in 20:48.


Right behind An, Bill Fricks of Leesburg, Georgia was the top master runner in the 5K, placing third overall in 20:49. Conner Mullen, an eighth-grader on the Worth County Middle School cross-country team, was the third male finisher and fourth overall in 21:05.


Ramsay Miller, a first-year athlete on the Point University cross-country team, was the women's runner-up in the 5K, placing ninth overall in 21:55. Leesburg's Sara Ostrander was the first woman master and third female finisher, eighteenth overall in 23:28.


129 athletes finished the 2018 Jingle Bell Jog 10K, while another 386 completed the 5K. Both races were timed by Orion Racing of Atlanta, Georgia. All proceeds of the Jingle Bell Jog go to the beneift of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
