Henry Plowden and Ann Centner lead Albany's Jingle Bell Jog

In 2016, Henry Plowden won the 5K at Albany, Georgia's 28th annual Jingle Bell Jog. On Saturday morning, 9 December 2017, Plowden returned to Tift Park for the 29th annual Jingle Bell Jog, but this time the sophomore cross-country runner from Westover High was racing 10K. He was just as successful at the longer distance, winning in 38:51. Blakely, Georgia's Ann Centner continued her habit of winning women's title all over Southwest Georgia, running 39:50 in her first Jingle Bell Jog 10K to place first in the women's standings and second overall.


Dennis Moore of Leesburg, Georgia was the fastest master runner in the 2017 Jingle Bell Jog 10K, placing third overall and second in the men's standings at 41:56. Three years earlier, Moore had been the top master runner in the 2014 Jingle Bell Jog 10K. Ashton Donahue, a senior on the Baconton High cross-country team, was the third male finisher and fourth overall in 42:00. Two-time Jingle Bell Jog 10K champion Patrick Whitehead was the fourth man and sixth overall with a 43:46.


Also clocked in 43:46 but finishing just ahead of Whitehead, Jennifer Perkins was the second woman and fifth overall. Perkins had been the top woman in the 2016 Jingle Bell Jog 10K. Sarah Harris was the third woman and eleventh overall in 46:25. Lynn Varner was the first woman master and eighth female finisher, 23rd overall in 51:14.


141 athletes finished the 2017 Jingle Bell Jog 10K.

While the defending champion of the Jingle Bell Jog 5K, Henry Plowden, was racing the 10K, Arnoldo De Jesus was winning the shorter race, running 19:30. Trevor Boeckman took second in the 5K with a 19:41. Jon Durham, an eight-grader on the Deerfield Windsor cross-country team, was third overall in 19:49.


Sara Ostrander was the fastest master runner as well as the first woman in the 5K, placing tenth overall in 21:44. Kristen Scheuter took second in the women's standings and eleventh overall in 22:29. Meghan Pate was the third female finisher, coming in twentieth overall in 23:56.


Gordy Bonner was the first male master and fourteenth male finisher in the 5K, sixteenth overall in 23:18.


372 athletes finished the 2017 Jingle Bell Jog 5K. Both the 10K and the 5K were timed by Orion Racing of Atlanta, Georgia.
