Ross and Hamby ring up wins at Albany's Jingle Bell 10K

In a duel of college sophomore vs. high school sophomore, Darton College's Adam Ross narrowly outkicked Bryton Wenzel of Baconton Charter School to win the Jingle Bell Jog 10K in Albany, Georgia on Saturday, 4 December 2010. Ross ran 35:51, finishing just a pair of seconds ahead of Wenzel's 35:53. Ross is the 2010 Region XVII junior college cross-country champion, and ran for Darton College's cross-country team at last month's NJCAA cross-country championships and the NJCAA half-marathon championships. Wenzel was no less busy in November, competing at the GHSA state championships for Baconton Charter, where he placed 23rd in the 1A boys' race. Ross and Wenzel raced virtually alone for the Jingle Bell title; the third-place runner, Artemia Gomez of Omega, Georgia, finished nearly a mile behind them in 41:33. Darren Jones of Baconton, Georgia was the Jingle Bell Jog's fastest master finisher, placing 8th overall in 43:46. Mitchell Sellars (10th, 44:20) was the runner-up among the master runners.

Albany's Karen Hamby captured both the women's and woman masters' titles, running 45:23. Hamby finished about 100 meters ahead of the women's runner-up, Tiffany Warren of Waycross, Georgia. Warren's time was 45:51.

The Jingle Bell Jog also included a 5K option, the shorter race went to Will Howell of Enigma, Georgia in 19:57. At 22:49 Katherine McGarr of Cordele, Georgia was the top female finisher.

The Jingle Bell Jog is an annual event hosted by the Phoebe Foundation of Albany, Georgia. This year marked the 23rd anniversary of the "Jog." The runs start and finish at Phoebe Healthworks (part of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital) and meander through the Rawson Circle neighborhood of Albany. 194 runners completed the 10K and another 351 finished the 5K.

  1. The race was not even close. Bryton went the wrong way on the course finishing right behind me after I caught him. The real difference would have been a few minutes.

  2. If I understand you correctly, it sounds like there should have been a DQ.
