16:17 wasn't as fast as last year, but it was still good enough for Chris Rice to successfully defend his title at Valdosta, Georgia's Winterfest 5K on Saturday afternoon, 4 December 2010. Rice, a cross-country runner at Valdosta State University, finished almost 200 meters ahead of the second place runner, Steve Cary (16:52), the VSU assistant cross-country coach. Another member of the VSU Blazer cross-country squad, Juan Tejada, was third in 17:43. In fact, six of the top seven runners in the race came out of the Blazer cross-country program, including the fastest woman of the day, Jordanne Helton. Helton shattered the course record by nearly two minutes, placing seventh overall in 19:10. Helton's closest competition in the women's division was Brandi Faircloth of Hahira, Georgia, who was 16th overall in 21:16. It was Faircloth's second year in a row as runner-up in the Winterfest 5K.
Among the master runners, Tom Phillips (13th, 20:23) edged out Rusty Jones (14th, 20:29) and Rick Mazurkiewicz (15th, 20:40) to take top honors. Tracy Davis of Paro, Georgia was the first woman master finisher, at 25:23 the 18th woman to finish and 63rd runner overall.

Talk 92.1 FM. 147 athletes completed the race. Proceeds went to benefit Toys For Tots.
