Munger was the fourth in a string of Bun Run champs less than twenty years old. Brishen House of Lowndes High had won the race in 2017, Jackson Green of Valosta State had won in 2016, and Matthew Baun of Valdosta High had won in 2015. Ryan Kelly had been the Bun Run's last over-twenty winner, with victories in 2013 and 2014. In the 2018 race, Kelly came up second-best against Munger, finishing runner-up in 18:58. Behind Kelly, Myles Gibson of Donalsonville, Georgia was the top master runner in the Bun Run; Gibson was third overall in 19:33.
Alexandra Sayre was runner-up to Brenna Clark in the women's standings, placing seventeenth overall in 24:39. Sayre is a rising junior on the Lowndes High cross-country team. Martha Mazurkiewicz of Valdosta was the first woman master and third female finisher in the Bun Run, coming in eighteenth overall in 25:21.
88 athletes finished the 2018 Break Bread Bun Run 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the race and provided finish line services.
