2009 Red Hills Triathlon

From 7:30 to 7:45 AM on the morning of 4 April 2009, over 300 athletes slipped in the dark waters of Lake Hall, north of Tallahassee, Florida in Maclay Gardens State Park. One-third of a mile of swimming, sixteen miles of bicycling, and 3.1 miles of running later, Tallahassee's Thomas Barton was the overall champion of the 2009 Red Hills Triathlon, finishing with a time of 1:09:35. Barton's closest challenger was Ken Brown of Alpharetta, Georgia, who completed the triathlon in a time of 1:10:56.

In the women's competition, Tallahassee's Stephanie Liles successfully defended her 2008 title, completing the course in 1:14:51. Close behind in 1:15:18 was runner-up Seeley Gutierrez, also of Tallahassee. Liles first moved into the lead on the bicycling leg and continued to move away from Gutierrez during the final leg, the run.
