FSU Economics professor D. Katie Showman was the fastest woman in the race, finishing fifth overall in 20:33. 100 meters behind Showman, Meaghan Feletti ran 20:59 to claim the women's runner-up position. The fifth woman across the line, Sandra Canada, edged out Julie Clark 24:57 to 25:13 for the top woman master spot.
Back for a second year--recycled, if you will--the Trash Dash 5K was run on a new course in 2012. This year's route was closer to the correct distance than 2011's short course, but it still included a unique tour of the landfill area while adding a mile of running in Apalacheee Regional Park. No one had compliments for the gravel road on the first half mile of the race, but it did add to the variety of surfaces. The course change apparently didn't hurt attendance; although it was still a small race, the 2012 field of nearly 100 runners was significantly larger than the group that finished the first Trash Dash in 2011.

This is a great community activity to get people out of their homes once in a while, I especially like that its course is based around a landfill for awareness.
