Linton and Adriani take Ten

Stanley LintonFlorida State University student Stanley Linton ran two circuits of Ox Bottom Manor, clocking 56:18 for ten miles and finishing at the front of a field of 183 runners in Gulf Winds Track Club's 25th annual Ten-Mile Challenge road race on Saturday morning, 1 December 2012. Jay Wallace was the fastest master runner in the race, finishing third overall in 60:26. Micah Adriani of Tallahassee took the women's title, placing 21st in 68:05. At 74:21, the first woman master was Kathy Andrews.

Vince MoloskyFor the third year in a row, the quarter-century old race started from Hawks Rise Elementary School. Over 300 runners in two races, the ten mile and a five mile, left the parking lot and headed east on Meadow Ridge Drive. Vince Molosky, the 2009 and 2010 title-holder, set the pace. By the time Molosky cruised past the mile mark in 5:12, he had left the rest of the runners well behind--except for Stanley Linton, who was practically stumbling over the Molosky's heels. A mile later, Linton took over the lead, quickly opening a gap on Molosky. Linton was never challenged after that, and went on to a 56:08 win, finishing over a quarter mile ahead of Molosky. Molosky was runner up in 58:03. Behind him, Jay Wallace finished third overall in 60:26, the first master runner in the race. Lincoln High sophomore cross-country runner Hunter Scott ran 63:14 for fourth.

Micah Adriani
In the women's competition, a group of four runners fought for the early lead--Adriana Piekarewicz, Kristine Cox, Micah Adriani, and the defending women's champion, Katie Showman. Just past the two mile mark, Adriani had a few steps on the others. Her pursuers fell back one by one, and Adriani went on to win the women's title in the 2012 Ten-Mile Challenge in 68:05. Adriana Piekarewicz took the second women's spot, finishing 24th overall in 68:49. Showman (30th, 72:03) and Cox (32nd, 72:15) were the third and fourth females, while Ashley Daily (38th, 73:52) was fifth. The sixth woman across the line, Kathy Andrews (40th, 74:21), earned top master woman honors. For the third year in a row, Thomasville's Mary Anne Grayson was the second woman master; this time out she ran 75:13 for 43rd overall.

Moriah Campbell
At the same time that 183 runners were completing the Ten-Mile Challenge, another 119 athletes were competing in a five-mile race, one loop of the same course. Three athletes shared the lead for much of the first mile--Tallahassee master runner Tony Guillen, Leon high school cross-country runner Zac Buchholz, and Bainbridge High cross-country runner Tae Ross. By halfway through the five mile, though, Buchholz had dropped Guillen and Ross, going on to win in 29:19. Guillen was the runner-up and first master in 29:47, while Ross finished third in 31:53. Moriah Campbell took off ahead of the rest of the women in the five mile, and was over a minute ahead of Paula O'Neill at the halfway point of the race. O'Neill narrowed that margin in the second half of the race, but couldn't catch Campbell, who went on to win the women's five-mile title in 38:24, placing 11th overall. 100 meters back, Paula O'Neill was the second female finisher and first master woman, 13th overall in 38:44.
