Wingfooted McConnell and Foote win at Soaring Eagle

Sean McConnell moved up this year. After a second-place finish in the 2012 Soaring Eagle 5K, the Adel, Georgia master runner won the 2013 edition of that race, leading a field of 46 athletes on a tour of the streets of Adel in 19:57. Almost a quarter mile behind McConnell, two runners dueled for the runner-up spot--Tom Thomas, a cross-country runner at Cook High School, and 12-year-old Cody Pezent. In the end it was Thomas by a whisker, 21:28 to 21:30.


Erin Foote of Valdosta was the first woman in the second annual Soaring Eagle 5K, placing 6th overall in 23:26. Adel's Angela Pezent was the next woman, finishing ninth overall in 26:34. Close behind Pezent, Adel runner Stephanie Langley was third in the women's field, running 26:46 for tenth place. The first woman master and fourth woman finisher was Glenda Strickland of Moultrie, Georgia. Strickland was 11th overall in  27:27.


The second annual Soaring Eagle 5K was held on Saturday morning, 26 January 2013, by Adel Community Christian Academy. The village of Adel, Georgia is also home to the Daylily Festival 5K and the Road-Kill Run.
