No superpowers, just fast running for Bryson Butler and Karina Amundson at the Superhero 5K

On Thursday, 21 February 2019, Bryson Butler was competing in his first track meet for Berrien County High, racing the 1600 and the 800 in Douglas, Georgia. Less than two days later, on Saturday morning, 23 February 2019, Butler was on the streets of his hometown, Nashville, Georgia, racing the CASA Superhero 5K. The Berrien County frosh won the 3.1-mile race, running 21:35. Valdosta, Georgia master runner Karina Amundson was the first woman in the race, placing fifth overall in 29:14.


Butler was coming off the 2018 cross-country season, his first running for Berrien County. Before that, he had raced cross-country for Berrien County Middle School. A member of that Berrien County Middle School cross-country team, seventh-grader Andrew Solomon, finished runner-up to Butler in the Superhero 5K, running 21:47. Ryan Yancey of Nashville was third in the 5K with a 26:13. Thomasville, Georgia's Allen Wooten was the first master runner in the race, placing fourth overall in 28:15.


Allison Butler, a sixth-grader on the Berrien County Middle School cross-country team, was second in the women's standings, placing seventh overall in 30:12. Valdosta master runner Delleese Collins was the third woman and eighth overall in 31:06.


23 athletes finished Nashville, Georgia's 2019 CASA Superhero 5K, while another fourteen completed a one-mile fun run. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia timed both races.
