Walker Johnson, a freshman distance runner at Lowndes High School, won the third annual Viking 5K on Saturday morning, 4 May 2013 at Westside Elementary School in Valdosta, Georgia. Johnson ran 19:55 in the 3.1-mile race, finishing over a minute ahead of the runner-up and defending champion, Caleb Coil of Lowndes High School. Coil's time was 20:57.Appropriately enough for a Viking 5K, a pair of runners from Valdosta's Viking Runners Club took the top two places in the female division. Ten-year-old Kelsey Morse took the title, finishing third overall in 21:29. Eryn Wilkey was the second female finisher, placing seventh overall in 22:45.
The event has been staged annually since 2011 as a benefit for the PTO of Westside Elementary School.
