Curtin runs like a reindeer in Panama City Beach

In the fourth annual Reindeer Race on Panama City Beach, Michael Curtin of the United States Air Force ran like the animal the event is named for. Curtin finished over 600 meters ahead of his nearest competitor, handily beating a field of over 400 athletes. But while Curtin ran practically unopposed for the title spot, that wasn't the case for runner-up. Three runners fought a close race for second, with Mike Sullivan and Nate Sukolsky clocked in identical times of 16:41 and schoolboy Wesley Wilmot right on their heels at 16:43. Kayla Adcock ran 17:18 to finish as the first female; Sarah Mrazek was the women's runner-up at 18:00.

The Reindeer Race is one of two annual running events hosted by the Junior Service League of Panama City. Race proceeds benefit Girls On The Run of Bay County.

  1. I think this a good PR course! ;)

  2. In the crowded racing schedule, an event needs a marketing gimmick to stand out. I'm not sure that discounting the race distance by a kilometer works, though.

  3. Maybe they gave partial refunds at the finish. That'll work, a PR and a refund. Sign me up.

  4. Yeah, but they might do the opposite at those trail ultras with long courses. "I'm sorry, but the course was four miles longer than the posted 50 miles, so you can't cross the finish line till you cough up another ten dollars." Shades of Charlie and the MTA!

    Herb.
