Emma Rudman and Maddie Fulmer are both cross country runners at high schools in the Florida panhandle. Both athletes are in the class of 2016. As far as differences, Rudman runs for Fort Walton Beach, a top ten team in class 3A, while Fulmer runs for South Walton, a class 2A team that hasn't been to the State Finals since 2009. Before 4 October 2014 Rudman and Fulmer met five times on cross country courses. Each time Rudman finished ahead of Fulmer.However, that was before 4 October 2014 and the fourth annual Rutherford Ram Run in Panama City, Florida. On the course at the Callaway Rec Complex, Maddie Fulmer and Emma Rudman clashed on the turf a sixth time, and in this match Fulmer won the girls' 5K, running a career best 19:23. Rudman was second in 19:48. Rudman's Fort Walton Beach teammate, junior Brooke Crane, was third in 19:51. Arnold sophomore Michaela Ashley had challenged Fulmer early in the race, but the winner of the previous week's Marlin Mad Dash ended this race fourth in 20:00. Wakulla sophomore Haleigh Martin, undefeated in September, placed fifth in 20:32.
When it came to the team scores, though, the race was all Fort Walton Beach. In addition to Emma Rudman and Brooke Crane, the Vikings also got top ten finishes from sophomore Jessica Riley (7th, 20:50), senior Autumn White (9th, 21:24), and junior Brookelyn Hodges (10th, 21:25). Those five scorers gave Fort Walton Beach 31 points and the team title. The Crestview girls were second with 68 points, and Wakulla was third with 103.

Fort Walton Beach did even better in the boys' 5K. The first three runners in that race were all Vikings, starting off with an event record 16:23 win by senior Trey LaNasa. Another Fort Walton Beach senior, Josh McDowell, was second in 16:28 and Viking junior Demery Benedict was third in 17:13. Mosley junior Ethan Mines (4th, 17:18) and Wakulla sophomore Bryce Cole (5th, 17:41) were the first non-Vikings across the finish line.
But when Viking junior Stephen Jones (9th, 18:04) and senior Davis McKinney (11th, 18:10) finished, the Fort Walton Beach boys had a mathematically unbeatable 26 points and the Ram Run team title. Wakulla was second with 65 points, and Crestview a close third with 73.
