Alec Munger |
Aaron Munger, the runner-up, was also a Lowndes athlete. A sophomore, the younger Munger went 17:20. Parker Reid Jackson edged Lowndes junior Matt Herndon for third, 18:00 to 18:01. Jackson, a Valdosta High junior, was the Labor Day 5K defending champion. Ryan Kelly of Lake Park, Georgia was the top master runner in the race, placing sixth overall in 19:07.
Lowndes senior Kiley Matheson took second in the women's category, coming in 24th overall in 23:29. Another Lowndes cross-country runner, sophomore Lindsey Whitmer, was the third woman and 26th overall in 23:39. Loretta Tanner of Waycross, Georgia was the first woman master and the tenth female finisher, overall in 26:21.
The top twenty men and the top twenty women each received a Valdosta State University coffee mug, presented just past the finish line.
99 athletes finished the 2020 Valdosta Labor Day 5K. Proceeds of the race benefited the Valdosta State University cross-country teams. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the race and provided finish line services.
