Enoch Nadler scores a threepeat at the Frank Shorter Mile

Before Monday, 1 January 2024, Enoch Nadler was the only man that had won twice at Florida Track Club's Frank Shorter Mile. After that New Year's Day, Nadler was the only man to have won the race three times. Nadler went 4:35 on the one-mile course around Gainesville, Florida's Westside Park, winning the ninth annual event by close to 80 meters. Scout Storms, a junior year cross-country runner for the Barrington High Broncos, won the women's title in the road mile, edging defending champ Haley Hasty 5:11 to 5:14.


2023 Frank Shorter Mile champion Elijah House ran 5:49, two seconds faster than his winning time in the 2023 race, but the Bureau Valley High alum had to settle for second place behind Nadler. Sam Weiler of Gainesville took third in 4:57; no other athletes broke 5:00. Mikell Squires repeated as the top master runner in the men's standings; at 5:39 Squires was the ninth male finisher.


Gainesville's Katelyn Greenleaf was the third woman in the Mile, running 5:23 behind Scout Storms and Haley Hasty. Betsy Suda was fourth in the women's field and the fastest master runner of the morning with a 5:32. Suda was the women's champ at the 2016 Frank Shorter Mile, the inaugural running of the event.


44 men got out on New Year's Day to finish the Frank Shorter Road Mile, and another 36 athletes finished the women's race.
