Maxwell Wester, a frosh member of the Marianna High cross-country team, won the fifth annual Shining With Shamrocks 5K in Marianna, Florida on Friday evening, 8 March 2024. Wester toured the 3.1-mile course in 19:32, finishing more than 600 meters ahead of the next runner. Aubrey Smith was the first woman in the race, coming in eighth overall in 24:28.Nine-year-old Evan Cantler was the overall runner-up in the 5K, running 22:15. Tallahassee, Florida athlete Michael Kennett was the first master runner in the race, placing third overall in 22:33.
Araceli Perez, a frosh-year harrier on the Malone High girls' cross-country team, took second in the women's standings and thirteenth overall in 25:26. Not far behind Perez, Bailey Smith was the third woman and fourteenth overall in 25:31. Nicole Goble was the first woman master and the sixth female finisher, twentieth overall in 26:41.
191 athletes finished Jackson County Education Foundation's 2024 Shining Shamrocks 5K. Milestone Race Authority timed and scored the event.
