Will Brewster and April Mathis squash the competition at the Pumpkin Patch Run

If you despair at seeing seasonal shopping displays earlier and earlier each year, so that Christmas items are showing up in stores months early, you can take comfort in the world of road racing. On the roads, you won't see a Turkey Trot before November. You won't see a Jingle Bell Run outside of December. And it will almost certainly be October before you see a pumpkin-themed run--like Colquitt Christian Academy's fourth annual Pumpkin Patch Run. That five-kilometer race didn't show up on the streets of Moultrie, Georgia till Saturday morning, 5 October 2019. Will Brewster of Moultrie led the field by more than 500 meters, winning the race in 18:01. Moultrie master runner April Mathis was the first woman in the race, placing eighth overall in 25:40.


Moultrie's Tyler Dunn finished runner-up to Brewster with a 20:40. Lee McGill of Moultrie, the defending champion, was the top master runner in the race, coming in third overall in 21:31.


Thomasville, Georgia master runner Robin Cartright took second in the women's standings and sixteenth overall in 30:08. Thirteen-year-old Calie Myrick, an eighth-grader on the Colquitt Christian Academy cross-country team, was the third female finisher and seventeenth overall in 31:02.


60 athletes finished the 2019 Pumpkin Patch 5K.

Daniel Phillips and Mary Thompson raced well at Run For The Ranch

On Saturday morning, 20 April 2019, the Rose City 10K in Thomasville, Georgia was just seven days away. But in Moultrie, Georgia--just a few miles north of Thomasville on US 319--there were athletes who couldn't wait a week to race ten kilometers. They took to the Moultrie streets in the fourth annual Run For The Ranch 10K, and the fastest of them was Moultrie's Daniel Phillips, who won the 6.2-mile race in 46:36. Another Moultrie athlete, Mary Thompson, repeated as first woman in the race, placing fourth overall in 53:12.


Bo Moore of Camilla, Georgia was the fastest master runner in the race, finishing as the overall runner-up in 49:40. Chula, Georgia's Amy Hightower was the top woman master in the 10K, coming in seventh overall in 1:02:31.


Nine athletes finished the 2019 Run For The Ranch 10K.

Not everyone in Moultrie was interested in racing a full ten kilometers. For them, the Run For The Ranch included a five-kilometer event. Chad Northcutt of Quitman, Georgia won that 3.1-miler by over 200 meters running 20:54. Doug Yarbrough of Moultrie took second in 21:50. Moultrie's Alfredo Esposito was the first master runner in the 5K, placing third overall in 22:28.


Moultrie master runner April Mathis was the first woman, placing eighth overall in 26:35. Katie Cato of Doerun, Georgia finished second in the women's standings and ninth overall in 27:31. Tampa, Florida athlete Hayley Tolbert edged Shana Murphy of Moultrie for the third women's spot, both runners clocked in 27:48. Tolbert and Murphy were eleventh and twelfth overall.


28 athletes finished the 2019 Run For The Ranch 5K.
