Saturday, 23 February 2019, was a good morning for cross-country runners at the Heart-to-Heart 5K in Douglas, Georgia. Carter Young, a frosh-year member of the Coffee High cross-country team, won the race in 18:04. Kate Merritt, an eighth-grader on the Coffee Middle School cross-country squad, took the women's title, placing eighth overall in 22:11.Carter Young wasn't the only harrier up front. His Coffee High teammate, sophomore Garrett Mancil, was second in 19:03. Briley Reyes, a frosh-year cross-country runner for Jeff Davis High, was third in 20:28.
Jose Salinas was the fastest master runner in the field and the eighth male finisher, ninth overall in 22:22.
Alexandra Uribe, the eighth-grade ace of the Jeff Davis Middle School girls' cross-country team, placed second in the women's standings and twentieth overall in 24:35. Trish Watson was the first woman master and third female finisher, 24th overall in 25:42.
81 athletes finished the 2019 Heart-to-Heart 5K.
