Priority registration for the 20 October 2013 29th annual Army Ten-Miler opened on 1 May 2013. Common folk were allowed to enter on 15 May 2013, or at least they were allowed to attempt to enter. The race was expected to sell out in a few hours, even though the size of the field is being increased to 35,000 this year. That's a lot of runners, soldiers and civilians, running in the streets of Washington, DC. In fact, the Army Ten-Miler is the third-largest ten-mile race in the world and the largest in North America.May is also when Fort Rucker, Alabama holds its own Army Ten-Mile Run Off. Fort Rucker has a history of winning the Open Mixed Team division at the October Army Ten-Miler, and the Run Off in May is when the post's athletes start focusing on the big race. This year's Run Off started at 7:00 AM CT Saturday morning, 11 May 2013, from behind the base Fitness Facility. Jonathan Argyle won big, running 58:56 and finishing more than 800 meters ahead of the next runner, Sean Keefe. Keefe covered the ten mile tour of Fort Rucker in 62:55. Kevin Pawlik was the fastest master runner in the race, placing sixth in 68:35. Teresa Haltom took the women's title, finishing ninth overall in 70:34. The first woman master was Susan Fondy, 55th overall in 91:51.
86 athletes finished the ten-mile test, as well as eight 5 x 2-mile relay teams.
