McLeod and Moore are the class of the Classic

One week after his win at the Milltown Motorcade 5K, Mark McLeod was back on the roads in the third annual Moultrie Technical College Classic 10K on 7 May 2011. McLeod, a cross-country runner for South Georgia College, not only picked up his second win in as many weeks at the MTC race, but also set an event record of 36:40. Half a kilometer behind McLeod, Clint Watkins of Madison, Georgia was the runner-up and first master finisher, running 38:50. Moultrie distance runner Hope Moore took the women's title, placing eighth overall in 49:11. Tifton's Melanie Hall (12th, 50:13) was the next woman in, while Ruth Ellen McCook (14th, 53:10) was the third woman and first woman master.

In a 5K race run concurrently with the 10K, Raymond Jenkins of Doerun, Georgia ran 20:42 for the win. Jenkins is a sophomore member of the Colquitt County High School cross-country team. The first woman finisher in the 5K was Tifton's Katherine McGarr, a cross-country runner at Tiftarea Academy. McGarr was fourth overall in 22:39.

Over 70 athletes competed in the 10K / 5K, following which another 30 or more ran in a one-mile fun run. Proceeds of the event benefit the Moultrie Technical College Foundation.
