2009 Fallen Heroes Run, Tallahassee, Florida

FSU race photodistance runner Christian Minor cruised around the roads and trails of Tom Brown Park on the morning of 1 August 2009 to win the inaugural Fallen Heroes Run, an event organized by the North Florida chapter of Operation One Voice. Minor clocked 17:02 over the approximately 3.3-mile long course. His closest challenger was Maclay School cross-country coach Gary Droze, the top master finisher at 18:23. The fastest woman in the race was Olivia Swedberg, who finished ninth overall in 22:07. Teresa LaFleur was the top master woman finisher in the Fallen Heroes run at 25:30.

Like many of the runners in the race, Minor was surprised to learn that the course was longer than the posted 5K. "I passed three miles in 15:15, which is 5:05 pace," said Minor. "And then I was 17:02 at the finish, which would be a lot slower." The course was variously described as 3.26, 3.27, and 3.3 miles long, all of which are significantly farther than 5 kilometers, which would be 3.11 miles. Most of the course was on the Tom Brown Park section of the Goose Pond Trail, a ten-foot wide paved multi-use trail.

There were 164 recorded finishers in the race.
