No sand, no waves, but wins for Kent and Lichner

When you have the best cross-country course in lower Alabama, it only makes sense to use it. That is exactly what Dothan has in Westgate Park's Larry and Rona Dykes Trail, and Dothan certainly uses it. It's a rare weekend when there is not a race or a high school cross-country meet on the trail. Most recently, on Saturday morning, 25 August 2012, the Dothan Runners Club staged the annual Life Is A Beach 5K on the trail.


Northview High senior Sean Kent repeated as the top male in the race, this time winning the 3.1-mile event outright with a 18:26. Kent finished nearly 200 meters ahead of the runner up, Drew Ackles, who crossed the line in 19:03. The third-place finisher was the top master runner in the race, Jeff Dasinger. Val Lichner of Bonifay, Florida was the first female and fastest female master, placing 30th overall in 24:23.
