Mosier and Jenkins capture FSUCares kudos

Dan Mosier"You're not going to write that the course was short, are you?" asked Bobby York.

I hadn't planned on it, until he mentioned it. The FSUCares 5K course, like so many of the courses on the Florida State University campus, isn't USATF certified, and the FSU police are always waving the runners out of the street and onto the sidewalks, so I don't assume a great deal of accuracy. Nevertheless, more than a few runners were pointing at the GPS units on their wrists, and citing figures like 2.99 miles or other numbers short of 3.1. No word yet from the man who set out to measure the course with a ball of yarn.

Charlie SanabriaLong or short, certified or not, on Sunday morning, 13 November 2011, Dan Mosier ran the course in 16:52, faster than the 167 other runners in the race. Mosier led the entire way, finishing the race more than 250 meters ahead of runner-up Charlie Sanabria, who finished in 17:51. Closing on second, Pat Biel was third in 17:56. At 18:30 Mike LaBossiere was the fourth finisher and the first master runner.

Chloe JenkinsFSU med student Chloe Jenkins, winner of the previous month's ZTA Race To Live 5K, added another women's title to her resume, placing sixth overall in 18:46. Jenkins finished over half a kilometer ahead of women's runner-up Joanna Meadors (19th, 21:36). Robin Borschel (26th, 22:30).

The race is an annual production of FSUCares, a medical student organization dedicated to bringing health care to the needy both here and abroad. Appropriately enough the event started and finished at the FSU College of Medicine. Although the run was staged on its traditional date of the Sunday before Florida State's homecoming, unlike previous years the start was in the morning rather than the afternoon.
