Rhodes and Bacile lead the salute to Sgt. Green

Dustin Rhodes finished at the front of a field of 81 athletes in the 12 November 2011 running of the inaugural Sgt. Dale Green Memorial 5K in Tallahassee's Tom Brown Park. Rhodes put up a time of 20:55 for the race, over a minute ahead of the runner-up, master runner Michael Mills. Tallahassee's Jenn Bacile was the first female finisher, placing 13th overall in 28:49.

The race was run chiefly on the Goose Pond Trail in Tom Brown Park on a course that was probably a bit longer than 5K. Rhodes, for instance, had run more than a minute faster the day before in the Veteran's Day 5K--and altho' it's true that he wouldn't have been fresh on the second day of racing, it's also true that the Goose Pond Trail is almost flat compared to the savage hills of downtown Tallahassee that were included in the Veteran's Day 5K. But you don't know what you're getting when a course isn't USATF certified.

The race was part of the Sgt. Dale Green Memorial Weekend. Green was a thirteen-year veteran of the Tallahassee Police Department who was killed in the line of duty in 2002. All proceeds from the weekends events went to support the Sgt. Dale Green Memorial Scholarship.
