Fix and Parra hit the trail in the Flint River Ramble

Flint RiverNational Trails Day was 7 June 2014, just three days after National Running Day on 4 June 2014. Quite appropriately, Wild Side Running of Albany, Georgia, celebrated by staging a trail race, the Flint River Ramble Four Mile. After the floods of the 1990s, Albany retreated from banks of the Flint River. The formerly busy riverside has become parks, woods, and trails, making it possible to do a technical four-mile trail run right next to downtown Albany. 32 athletes took advantage of the opportunity.

Lee County High math teacher Josh Fix won the Ramble in 27:25. 2014 Gnat Days 5K winner Arnoldo De Jesus took the runner-up spot in 28:20. Leesburg master runner Dennis Moore was third in 30:54. Darton State College cross-country runner Victoria Parra placed first in the women's standings, finishing seventh overall in 34:57. Alisa Ivanina was second on the women's side, coming in eighth overall in 36:04.

In Albany, trail running isn't just a one-day-a-year event. The Darton State College Cross-Country Trail Run 15K, 5K, and one-mile is coming up on Saturday morning, 14 June 2014.
