Let's say you were given two landscapes. The first would be a country scene with a red barn, mountains in the background, and trees with multi-colored leaves--red, yellow, orange, and brown. The second is a beach scene with white sand dunes, sea oats, and the gentle swells of the Gulf of Mexico. Now, which do you associate more closely with Thanksgiving Day? Blame it on New England cultural bias, but most people would probably say the first. The second, however, more closely describes the Florida setting of the second annual Mexico Beach Turkey Trot 5K, run on Thanksgiving morning, 26 November 2015.Andrea Baglioni won the 3.1-mile race, running 18:37. Steve Scivally was the fastest master runner in the 5K, finishing runner-up in 18:58. North Whitfield Middle School cross country runner Lane Hollis took third in 19:22, and Pasco High harrier Jericho Cooey was fourth in 19:57.
Winter Park High frosh Elena Scivally was first in the women's standings, placing sixteenth overall in 24:58. Kelli McCullough was the second female finisher, seventeenth overall in 25:08, and Jennifer Upchurch was third on the women's side, 23rd overall in 26:38. Kelly Kirvin was the top woman master and sixth female finisher, 33rd overall in 28:18.
165 athletes finished Mexico Beach's 2015 Turkey Trot 5K. The race is a benefit for the Mexico Beach Community Garden.
