Everyone ends up chasing Fox and Reid at the Pilgrim Chase

PilgrimsOne thing that runners in Dothan, Alabama, have to be thankful for is the Larry and Ronna Dykes Trail in Westgate Park. The three-and-a-half mile loop is a perfect venue for races, cross-country meets, or a good workout. And each November on the Saturday morning after Thanksgiving, Dothan athletes can show how thankful they are for the trail by competing in the Pilgrim Chase 5K Trail Race in Westgate Park.


Dothan's Austin Fox won the 28 November 2015 edition of the race, finishing almost 400 meters ahead of the next runner. Fox, who also won the Pilgrim Chase in 2013, covered the 3.1-mile course in 17:28. Rob Oates of Brandon, Mississippi finished runner-up in 19:00. Cottondale High junior-year cross country runner Michael Black was third in 19:34.


Right behind Black was the women's winner, Ginna Reid. A schoolteacher in Buncombe County, North Carolina, Reid was fourth overall in 19:36, nearly 900 meters ahead of the next woman in the race.


Cottondale High frosh cross country runner Blayton See outkicked Dale Thomas of Taylor, Alabama, for fifth, 20:00 to 20:01. Thomas was the top master runner in the race.


Lindsey Fox of Nashville, Tennessee, slipped by Margaret Winkler 23:52 to 23:54 to take second in the women's standings, placing thirteenth overall. Winkler, from Blakely, Georgia, was fourteenth overall and the top woman master.


78 athletes finished the 2015 Pilgrim Chase 5K Trail Race. Wiregrass running returns to Westgate Park on Saturday morning, 26 December 2015, at the Last Gasp 5K Trail Race.
