Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2015 (through October 31)

The October assault on Tallahassee's 2015 road 5K performance list didn't end with the Hurricane 5K. In the final week of the month there were three 5K races on USATF certified courses--the TMH For Life Challenge October 5K, the 15th annual FSECC 5K, and the Race For Readiness 5K. Of those, the FSECC 5K on Thursday morning, 29 October 2015, had the most impact on the performance lists. Tyler Udland still leads the men with his 15:29 Palace Saloon 5K performance and Katie Sherron continues to top the women's list with her 17:34 from the Hurricane 5K, but there were changes lower on the lists.

Joseph Garcia first appeared in the men's top 25 earlier in October, running a sixth-ranked 16:20 at the Hurricane 5K in Southwood. Back in Southwood for the FSECC 5K, Garcia tore a 15:54 and moved up to #5. Two days later Garcia added a 16:30 at the 31 October 2015 Race For Readiness, a kind of exclamation point at the end of the month. Second to Garcia at the FSECC 5K, master runner Gary Droze ran a 17:08, jumping from #25 on the men's list to #17. Droze also moved significantly closer to 2015's top performance by a master runner, Bryan Koon's 16:59 at the Palace Saloon 5K in April.

Bristolian Emma Reed debuted on the women's list at #4 with the 18:22 she ran at the FSECC 5K. A graduate assistant on the coaching staff of the Florida State University cross country team, Reed brought two other athletes to the race who made the top 25. One was Cecilia McMillan, whose 19:22 puts her at #11. The other was Lois Bartlett, #18 with a 20:01.

The conclusion of October racing wasn't the conclusion of 2015 racing. There are still two months of competition left in the year, including some 5K races on USATF certified courses--that is, chances to make the list. There's the the Deer Run 5K on 7 November 2015, the Habitat for Humanity 5K on 14 November 2015, and the Tallahassee Turkey Trot 5K on 26 November 2015. That last race is of course in Southwood, which should probably be renamed "Swiftwood." Joseph Garcia is among the fast runners pointing for Turkey Trot, so expect some serious revisions of the lists after Thanksgiving Day.
