Tucker's and Leverone's stars shine bright at the All-Star Classic

Just east of Tallahassee, Florida, there were around 1,500 athletes at Apalachee Regional Park on 7 November 2015 for Florida's High School State Cross Country Championships. But after those runners had left there was still one more act to play out in the sport this year. That was the Florida Athletic Coaches Association's 2015 Senior All-Star Cross Country Meet, back on the Apalachee Regional Park course on Saturday morning, 21 November 2015. Chiles High's Emma Tucker ran 18:56.83 to win the girls' 5K race, outrunning Alexa Cruz of St. Thomas Aquinas in the final kilometer. Tucker's win led the North All-Stars to a team win with 25 points. In the boys' 5K Rob Leverone of Plant High took charge in the final kilometer, winning in 16:10.20 and leading the West to the team title with 41 points.

The FACA Senior All-Star Cross Country Classic has been held annually since 1997. In the current format of the meet, the top high school seniors are invited to compete for one of four regional teams--North, South, East, and West. Up to eight seniors run on each team. The Classic was in Tallahassee 14 of the last 15 years, with five of the last six run at Apalachee Regional Park.
