Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2015 (through February 14)

Crumblin' cookies! The 2015 Run For The Cookies 5K rewrote the men's top ten in Tallahassee's 5K road performance lists for the year!

For starters, UNC Wilmington alumnus Remy Tamer took over the number one spot with his 15:40 in the 14 February 2015 race, the first sub-16:00 on the Tallahassee roads this year. Previous leader Stephen Cox also went under 16:00 at the Run For The Cookies; his second-place 15:46 is the new number two on the men's performance list. Two prep athletes from Maclay School, Clay Milford and James McClure, crashed the top ten with their times at the Run For The Cookies. Another teenager, FSU student Trevor Sununu, held on to the number nine spot by improving on his 17:53 mark at the Tulip Trot with a 17:17 at the Run For The Cookies. Maclay coach Gary Droze dropped out of the top ten despite going from 17:40 at the Trailblazer 5K to a 17:28 at the Run For The Cookies. Nevertheless, Droze still has the fastest 5K mark by a master runner on the Tallahassee roads so far this year.

In contrast, top ten on the women's 5K performance list hardly changed at all after the Run For The Cookies. Sheryl Rosen is still the fastest performer so far this year, only more so. Rosen lowered her best time for the year to 18:04 at the Cookie Run, close to 200 meters better than the next best runner on the list. No other top ten women's performances came out of the Cookie Run, but Renee Cox moved up to number twelve with by running 20:03. Montford Middle School cross-country star Caitlyn Wilkey held on to the 17th spot by running 20:21, improving on her 20:42 at the Trent Trot 5K. Right behind Wilkey, Swift Creek Middle School cross-country ace, Alyson Churchill, moved up to number 18 by racing a 20:24 at the Cookie Run. Vicky Droze made it onto the list for the first time this year, debuting at number 25 with her 21:15 showing at the Run For The Cookies.

And there are still more than ten months of racing left in 2015.


With that in mind, let's review the criteria for performances considered for the lists.
  • The race has to be in Tallahassee (anywhere in Leon County is fine)
  • The race has to be run on a USATF certified 5K course
  • The race has to have published results
  • I have to see the results
Those aren't very exclusive standards; most of the good races in town meet them. For instance, as long as I get the results from the Break-A-Leg 5K on February 21, I'll integrate them into the lists. Other eligible events in the next few weeks include the Thomasville Road Baptist Church 5K on March 7, the Shamrock Scurry 5K on March 14, the Springtime 5K on March 28, and the Palace Saloon 5K on April 11. Now that you know what you are training for, why are you still staring at this screen?
