Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2015 (through January 31)

After a weekend where there were two 5K races on certified courses in Tallahassee, you might suspect that there would be some changes in the city's performance lists for the year. Well, the weekend was that of 31 January 2015, the races were the Trailblazer 5K and the Tulip Trot 5K, and your suspicions would be totally justified.

No one was able to dislodge Stephen Cox from the top of the men's list. Going into February Cox's 16:08 at the Bowlegs Run For Scholarship is still Tallahassee's fastest 5K road performance of 2015. The rest of the top ten was not so stable. Jack Redwing edged Nate Kaiser at the Trailblazer 5K, both runners clocked in 16:54 and both runners crashing the 2015 top ten, Redwing at #3 and Kaiser at #4. Zach DeVeau also made it into the top ten; his third-place 17:11 at the Trailblazer ranks #5. The top two master runners at the Trailblazer 5K, Gary Droze and Geb Kiros, each ran fast enough to displace Michael Martinez from his spot as the top master on the list. Droze, the new top master, ran 17:40 and stands #8 on the performers' list. At 17:53, Kiros is tied for #9. The other 17:53 performer was Trevor Sununu, who posted that time across town while winning the Tulip Trot 5K in another part of town the same morning.

There were fewer changes on the women's list. Katie Sherron, who finished 2014 ranked #4 in the 5K among women on the Tallahassee roads, debuts at #9 in 2015 with a 19:39 at the Trailblazer 5K. The runner-up in the women's standings at the Trailblazer, Jillian Heddaeus, made it into the rankings at #22 with her 21:05. Heddaeus was #16 on the list at the end of 2014.

More than a few top runners at 2015's early races in Tallahassee have mentioned that the Run For The Cookies 5K is on their schedule. After the Trailblazer and the Tulip Trot, the Cookie Run is the next 5K in town on a certified course. In 2014 the Run For The Cookies 5K produced some of the year's fastest 5K road performances, including the fastest of all, Stanley Linton's 15:24. The 2015 race should also have a big impact on the performance list. Beyond the Run For The Cookies 5K on February 14, future Tallahassee 5K races on certified courses include the Break-A-Leg 5K on February 21, the Thomasville Road Baptist Church 5K on March 7, the Shamrock Scurry 5K on March 14, the Springtime 5K on March 28, and the Palace Saloon 5K on April 11.
