Tallahassee's all-time top high school distance performers going into 2015

The 2014 high school track season was a high water mark for Tallahassee athletes in the 1600-meter run. Three runners massively revised the top ten list of all time performers in that event--Adam Wallenfelsz, Avery Bartlett, and Sukhi Khosla. Khosla, a Leon junior, ran 4:05.96 to win the class 3A state championship in the 1600, the fastest time in Florida in 2014 and the fastest time ever run by a Tallahassee prep. Bartlett, a Chiles junior, ran 4:16.79 to take over the number seven spot on the city's all-time list. Right in town at the FSU Relays, Leon senior Wallenfelsz ran 4:17.02, eighth all-time for Tallahassee.

With Bartlett and Khosla back for the 2015 season, the assault on Tallahassee's high school records in the 1600 may not be over. Because of that, I thought it might be interesting to publish the current top ten list in that event. However, Khosla was also a state champion in the 3200, and currently ranks third all-time among Tallahassee high school distance runners at 8:59.50. Likewise, Bartlett was the class 3A state champion at 800 meters; he moved into third on Tallahassee's all-time list in that event with a 1:52.27. So how about the lists in those events? And what about the girls lists?


So here are the top ten all time performers for Tallahassee high school athletes in the boys' 800, 1600, and 3200, as well as the same three events for the girls. I relied heavily on John Citron's work in compiling Leon County high school performers lists in each of the track and field events. Lacking his ambition, I've limited myself to these six. In bringing Citron's work up to date, I also used the performances collected at DyeStat and FLRunners. Mike Warre's state performer's lists in the 3200 were also a valuable resource. Even with those sources, it's very possible that I'm missing some performances. After all, track and field in Tallahassee goes back to at least 1902. A Tallahassee athlete first won a state title in 1922, and the Capital City has been raising champions ever since. So if someone has escaped my notice, please let me know.
