Kelly and Bewley earn stars at Jog With The Generals

The Georgia Christian School of Dasher, Georgia, held their third annual Jog With The Generals road race on Saturday morning, 7 February 2015. "Jog" with the Generals? Apparently Valdosta High cross-country coach Ryan Kelly didn't get the memo about jogging. Kelly raced at an average pace of just under 6:00 minutes per mile, winning the 10K event in 36:53 and finishing two-and-a-half kilometers ahead of the next runner.

Lamont, Florida, master runner Jim Tully edged another master runner, Renaldas Smidtas of Jasper, Florida, for second place, 49:21 to 49:36. Fourth place belonged to the first woman finisher in the field, Lauren Bewley of Valdosta, Georgia. Bewley's time was 51:43. The women's runner-up and first woman master was Penny Bell of Hahira, Georgia; Bell finished sixth overall in 53:47.


115 athletes finished either the 10K or the 5K, not including additional runners who competed in a one-mile "dash". Finish line and timing services were provided by A Course / Line, LLC of Valdosta, Georgia.

The 10K event was new this year; the longest race at the earlier versions of the Jog With The Generals had been a 5K. In fact, Ryan Kelly's only previous appearance at the Jog With The Generals had been in the 2013 5K, where he finished second to Steven Cary. Even though the 10K was added in 2015, there was still a 5K at the Jog With The Generals. Brian Rohrbach of Valdosta, Georgia, won that 3.1-mile race, running 18:42. The 2014 champion, Scott Gordon of Tallahassee, Florida, was second in 19:25. Valdosta's Jake Bearrentine, the fourth-place finisher in 2013, placed third in the 2015 race, running 21:39. Billy Taylor of Valdosta was the top master in the race, running 22:59 for fourth overall.


Sonja Reed of Lake Park, Georgia, was the first woman finisher, coming in twelfth overall in 26:13. The women's runner-up spot went to the top woman master, Polyanna Bass of Pavo, Georgia. Bass was 15th overall in 26:26.
