A pearl of a race for Cole and Hines at the Half Shell Hustle

In Apalachicola, Florida, the weekend before Martin Luther King Day is reserved for the Apalachicola Oyster Cook-Off. And the Saturday morning of that weekend belongs to the Half Shell Hustle 5K. On 16 January 2016 Bryce Cole won the third annual Hustle, finishing more than 300 meters ahead of the next runner. Cole, a junior on the Wakulla High cross country team, ran the 3.1 miles through the streets of Apalachicola was 17:14. Chance Logan of Bristol, Florida, took second in 18:22. Simon Hodgson, a Franklin County High sophomore cross country runner, was third in 18:32.


Tallahassee, Florida's Amy Hines raced to the women's title in the Half Shell Hustle, placing fourth overall in 19:16. Denise Skinner of Sarasota, Florida, was the fastest master runner in the race and the second female finisher, fifth overall in 22:09. Apalachicola master runner Genee Heinke was third in the women's standings, coming in sixth overall in 22:49.


64 athletes finished the race.
